Superhero Name: Crusader
History: Reinhardt's Bio
Personality: Reinhardt is an old man who has seen everything the world has to offer. He's seen the very best, just as well as he's seen the very worst. He's seen the world come together to creating a peace-keeping organization, but he's also seen that very same organization come crumbling down due to corruption and terrorism. And yet, for all the things this hardened old man has seen in his life, not a single one of them has dried up his seemingly boundless pool of optimism. That's because his optimism is one of the strongest aspects of his personality, the thing that motivates everything he does.
He sees the world not for what it is, but what it could be.
He carries with him the ideals of an altruistic knight; someone who fights for justice, honor, and hope above all else. He's also incredibly courageous, willing to throw himself head-first into a conflict if it saves a life. The man has an overactive imagination, seeing the world not just for what it could be, but literally with the outlook of a knight fighting villains and monsters. That's because to him, that is what they are. Not thugs, or crooks, or bullies... but villains and monsters that must be defeated, to pave the way for a better tomorrow.
It's these strong ethics and boundless optimism that has made Reinhardt such an admired and respected individual. However, he's not a fool. As optimistic and altruistic as he is, he can also acknowledge the reality of a situation. When he was forced to retire from active duty, he didn't fight it. And when Overwatch was shut down, he didn't fight it. He's seen enough of the world to know what battles he can fight, and what battles he can't. But even with that, he's the type of person who would never give up if there was even the slightest chance of victory available to grasp.
Reinhardt embodies everything that Overwatch is supposed to be. A hope for a better world, and a drive to make that world a reality. Reinhardt is a knight, a true champion of justice. And no matter how much the world changes, or how much things seem like they're heading in the wrong direction... he will be there to plant his foot firmly on the ground, and remind the world what justice is.
Canon Powers: Reinhardt himself doesn't have any supernatural or otherworldly powers. However, he was the recipient of an experimental power armor, and all his abilities come from that.
Crusader Armor - Created by the German government in response to the Omnic Crisis. Increases the wearer's strength and endurance by a sizable amount, making them a veritable wall. Comes with a barrier field generator attached to the forearm, and rocket boosters attached to the back. Also comes with a rocket hammer.
► Barrier Field - Can be projected forward, and can handle about four times the amount of damage the armor can. Will regenerate when not in use.
► Rocket Boosters - Can be used in short bursts to charge forward. Used to tackle opponents against walls, or off cliffs.
► Rocket Hammer - Powerful melee weapon, has a rocket booster attached to the back. Booster can be used to fire an infrequent long range heatwave, and to slam down on the ground in an attempt to stun opponents in front of him.
Game powers: I would like to use the Crusader Armor as a one-power set.
Abilities: Reinhardt was a highly decorated soldier in the German military, as well as one of the founding members of the global peacekeeping organization, Overwatch. Due to both of these, he's well acquainted with various military tactics, stays in excellent physical shape, and has plenty of experience with both politics and diplomacy. However, even with all of that, he keeps himself very grounded to the people he wants to protect.
Setting: While the idea of an organization operating on an intergalactic scale will take some time to wrap his head around, the fact that the Legion of Superheroes is basically Overwatch but on a much larger scale will ABSOLUTELY bring a smile to his face. He likes Overwatch; hell, he misses Overwatch. Even if this isn't his universe, if there's anything he could possibly do to help those in need, he will gladly offer his hammer in support of the cause, no matter who it is. Really, what I'd like to do with him more than anything is establish him as someone others can confide him, because Reinhardt seems like the sort that isn't just an active combatant, but would be willing to offer advice to anyone who needs it.
SAMPLES
Prose Sample: Your character is with the team at a fancy diplomatic party and a UP dignitary (Coluan, naturally, because man, that whole planet seems to be chock fill of arrogant dicks) has called into question the character's ability to be a Legionnaire and whether or not they, some weirdo interdimensional stranger, have the personal character to help protect the United Planets. How do they respond?
Reinhardt knew enough about politics and people to know that this person would not be so easily swayed by his words. He knew ignorance when he saw it, and it made the older man frown underneath his armor. He was hoping that, given the far flung future this Legion operated in, that maybe society had outgrown the petty squabbles that seemed to overtake politics whenever peace-keeping organization were involved.
Apparently, that was not the case.
"I promise you sir," Reinhardt spoke from the armor, the electronic distortion doing nothing to hide the conviction in his tone. "My character is without question."
He stood up to his full height then, all seven feet and four inches. Reaching up to his helmet, and removing it to show his face. It was an act of trust, an attempt to try and convey the sincerity in his words through his expression. He may not have enjoyed politics, but the fact remained that this man wanted a test of character, and Reinhardt was going to give it.
"In my world, I helped found a peace-keeping organization, much like your Legion of Superheroes." He started, glancing at the rest of the legionnaires with a soft smile. "And as I look at my comrades' faces, I'm very much reminded of that organization." He turned back to the Coluan. "I stand before you now, as a representative of both Overwatch and the Legion. Carrying with me the ideals and values that helped found Overwatch, and are currently being upheld by the Legion. I stand before you now, as a champion of justice."
And finally, putting his helmet back on, Reinhardt concluded:
"And I truly hope that, over the course of my stay here... I can show you just how much I truly mean those words."
Network Sample: Welcome to the Legion, rookie. As a way of helping your character cope with their circumstances and have an optimistic outlook towards the future, the existing Legionnaires want them to record a message to their future self with their thoughts on their current situation, what they hope to accomplish in their time with the Legion, and the first thing they want to do when they get sent safely home or to the dimension of their choice.
Ahaha, this is amazing!
[ Reinhardt was as cheerful as one could be, his armor set aside as he addressed the omnicom directly. His expression so full of life and energy, that one had to wonder if this was really an old man, and more just a child trapped in an old man's body. ]
A future where technology has helped the galaxy become a better place? A Legion of Superheroes to keep the peace? Mein gott, Winston would absolutely love it here!
And could you imagine if Torbjörn was here? My armor already keeps him busy enough, imagine if he were to get his hands on some of this technology! Ah, the things he could build...!
[ He chuckled once more, before it finally died out. His energy levels dropping a bit, even if he had a smile on his face. He looked considerably more tired now though, especially as he looked directly at the camera. He was still cheerful, yes, but... it was tempered with a somber expression. ]
But... I suppose that is not what I should be talking about, is it. No, I suppose a better topic of conversation is... the Legion, yes?
[ He sighed, leaning back against his chair. Looking to the side for a moment, before turning back to the camera. ]
The parallels are there, are they not? This Legion... it functions like what we wanted Overwatch to be. [ And there was the elephant in the room. ] The active members, the missions, the philosophy behind it all... I cannot help but wonder if this is what Overwatch could have been, if things had worked out...
[ He sits there for a moment, glancing to the side. Looking considerably more melancholy than before. ]
It is not a good idea to dwell on the past, I know. [ He sighs, glancing at the camera. ] Overwatch is over...
... But the Legion is not.
[ And suddenly, his eyes light up. The revelation hitting him like a brick, a small smile spreading across his face. ]
Yes... the Legion is not over. The Legion is here. Overwatch may be no more, but the ideals and values that Overwatch was built on live on in these individuals! Yes, that's it!
[ He stands up, knocking the chair back. ]
The Legion and Overwatch, they are the same! They are hope! They are justice!
And they shall have my hammer!
Additional info: He's keeping his memories, and probably gonna wake up like nothing happened other than a long nap.
